The Special Education Department is committed to
supporting the long-term educational development of children with handicaps or
disabilities. In conjunction with State and Federal laws pertaining to
children with special needs, we in West Bridgewater work to realize this goal
for each child by providing a range of high quality programs and the services of
an experienced staff of professionals.
Our department serves all children residing in West Bridgewater
between the ages of 3 and 22 years who have difficulty in the learning process
due to intellectual, physical or emotional factors.
Our primary objective is to help each child develop his/her
academic, social and personal skills to the greatest extent possible by
providing an individualized program in the most appropriate setting. We
accomplish this by providing services in the areas of:

screening
and identification of community children to determine need for
further evaluations

referral
for specific or comprehensive assessments in the educational, medical or
psychological areas

individualized
educational planning by a team of professionals with parents /
guardians and /or student
-
individualized
programs designed to meet the child's specific social,
intellectual, academic physical and emotional needs in as normal a manner as
possible
-
case
management to ensure accountability for monitoring the student's
progress and needs and coordinating the activities necessary to provide for
those needs on an on-going basis
-
consultation
with instructional staff, parents and other parties involved
-
coordination
of prescribed methods and interventions

Specialized Academic & Tutorial Instruction
